What is Crimsafe®?

What is Crimsafe®? Crimsafe® is a stainless steel security mesh and frame system. It is used to secure doors, windows and outdoor areas from intruders and insects alike.

From a distance, it looks like flyscreen. And it does the same job of keeping your house cool in Summer while keeping mosquitoes out. But Crimsafe® is unlike any other flyscreen you’ve ever seen, because it makes your home virtually impenetrable to thieves.

Two special features mean it beats more burglars…

1. The mesh is 'screw-clamped' so it can't be kicked out

Look at the picture and you can see how the Crimsafe® mesh is sandwiched between two serrated pieces of aluminium that clamp the mesh tight. One is an aluminium strip with a hook (the grey coloured strip) and the other is the frame that the strip hooks into (the yellow part underneath). But then, all three are screwed together with stainless steel tamper-resistant screws and the different components are separated by a Santoprene (rubber) bead (the yellow strip in the image) This combination mechanically fastens the mesh to the frame and creates a barrier that can't be kicked in - The Screw-Clamped™ Mesh that Beats More Burglars.

This system is internationally patented and unique. Only Crimsafe® features screws driven through both the clamp and the mesh and right into the frame on the other side, to provide incredible strength.

To ensure no air or moisture can penetrate the system, an envelope of Santoprene ® fully encloses the mesh sandwiched between the screw-clamp (in the diagram, it’s the cream-coloured part). Without air or moisture, there can be no corrosion.

2. Crimsafe®'s mesh is 0.9mm thick and precisely woven, so every strand backs up the others

Research shows that the most common method of entry through security screens is a well-placed series of kicks that bust the screen apart. That won’t work with Crimsafe®. You can kick at Crimsafe®’s Tensile Tuff® mesh repeatedly, and you will definitely injure yourself before you break through it.

It’s also incredibly difficult to cut Crimsafe® mesh. You can take a machete and hack away at our mesh and you'll have a hard time getting anywhere. You might put a few holes in it but you won't be able to fit through them. That's because Crimsafe®’s Security mesh has such strong ‘shear’ resistance. What that means is that a burglar can’t make a hole in the mesh by stabbing it, and then make it bigger by using his weight to drag a knife through it.

Crimsafe® mesh stands up to an Australian Standards test called, funnily enough, “The Knife Shear Test”. There’s 15kg of force pushing the knife into the mesh, and 30kg’s pulling it along the face of the mesh. Crimsafe® is successful because the tip of the knife doesn’t penetrate the mesh, it just skips over it. It’s an incredibly tough test to pass, but Crimsafe® does it easily.

But the real proof that Crimsafe®'s Tensile Tuff mesh is something special is this... before Crimsafe® came on the market, nobody could even weave .9mm Premium 304 grade Security Steel into the commercial mesh that Crimsafe® is made of! They had to commission a wire products manufacturer to make special machinery before it could be done.

Secret coating means long life and good looks

The coating that goes on the stainless steel mesh gives it that cool black look, but it is purposefully designed to protect it from the environment.

It took a long time to develop it in conjunction with Dulux until it was right. The formula is a High Durability coating that contains additives to ensure long life and permanent good looks. The commercial powder coating actively works against the buildup of airborne particles and makes cleaning easier.

To prove its worth, test samples of mesh undergo the Salt Spray Test. This is a test that measures corrosion resistance when exposed to accelerated weathering conditions. A salt solution is sprayed at the test samples for 1000 hours, simulating 10 years of environmental exposure. Crimsafe® passed easily.

So when we say Crimsafe® beats more burglars ...

They really mean it. Burglars don't have a long time to spend trying to get into your home. They must get in, quickly, quietly, and get out. It's too damned hard to get through Crimsafe®. So burglars will give up and move on.

Door Security for Your Home - Features and Benefits

Crimsafe's ® doors for your home are available in standard frames, colonial-style to house cast panels, and can even be recessed into solid wood frames for a natural timber look. They can be hinged or sliding. You can see examples of all these door types in the Crimsafe.

All doors feature the unique Crimsafe® screw-clamp™ system - tamper-resistant screws go through a metal clamp, then through the Tensile Tuff ® Security mesh and then they grip right into the frame, to hold the mesh from being kicked out.

Crimsafe Emergency Escapes – Introducing the Safe-S-Cape® System

In a fire situation, you need to get out in seconds, or the smoke may kill you. Trying to get through a Crimsafe® Fixed Window would be hopeless. So we invented the Safe-S-Cape™ range of products.

Safe-S-Capes are keyless emergency exit products for window spaces. They let you quickly exit in a fire or other emergency, but they are just as hard to penetrate as all our other products because they feature Crimsafe's ® screw-clamped mesh as well as a triple "anti-jemmy" design that protects the lock.

With a Safe-S-Cape installed, you'll have peace of mind knowing that your home is as secure as it can be from the outside, but you can exit in seconds if you need to.

Single Sliding / Servery Safe-S-Cape™

Features and Benefits

The Single-Sliding Safe-S-Cape is a sliding panel of Crimsafe®. Along one edge of the panel is a full length locking stile that, when lightly pressed, releases along its entire length. With its one-touch and slide release, even a small child can operate a Sliding Safe-S-Cape.

Because it slides within a single track, the Single Sliding Safe-S-Cape can fit into tighter spots than Double- or Triple-Sliding Safe-S-Capes. It also makes the perfect sliding servery screen for kitchen windows.

There are two designs for servery spaces. In the first design, the moving panels slide from the side with the locking position on the jambs. And in the second, unique design, the locking position is in the middle of the opening, creating a large servery space when the locking panels are slid apart to the left and to the right.

As with all our products, Single Sliding Safe-S-Capes feature the screw-clamped mesh system that makes Crimsafe® unique and strong enough to beat burglars. Plus, they have a triple "anti-jemmy" design to foil burglars and protect the lock.

A Double- or Triple-Sliding Safe-S-Cape is a system of 2 or 3 sliding panels of Crimsafe® that slide within two tracks. Along one edge of each panel is a full length locking stile that, when lightly pressed, releases along its entire length. With its one-touch and slide release, even a small child can operate a Sliding Safe-S-Cape.

When closed, the overlapping Crimsafe® panels reinforce each other via an interlock, forming a strong and secure barrier.
